Not to be left out of the medal chase, Gregor Morris has taken the silver at the Ayrshire 9U mini tennis championship. Despite some adventurous attacking net play, Gregor lost out in a final dominated by long hard baseline rallies. Nevertheless, making it to the final through a field of 36 of the best players in the county was a result to be proud of.
Also taking part in the tournament were Alistair Gamble and Harvey Dunlop. Both boys played really well – the best I've seen them – but as I said, this was one of the strongest fields in years. However a lot of the things we've been working on at the coaching began to click in and I'm sure both have benefited from the experience and will become better players as a result.
Matthew Jess took part in the Open age tournament but again the quality of the opposition proved too much on the day. Matthew is technically a very good player and I only see good things as he gains in strength over the next few years.
